What Block Express adds

For a single large transactional database that would otherwise need several striped volumes, Block Express can consolidate to one volume, simplifying operations. Its multi-attach and higher durability are real differentiators for those cases. For everything else, gp3 delivers similar throughput at a fraction of the cost, and the money saved is substantial across a fleet.

Provision for need, not for headroom

Because IOPS is the expensive lever, over-provisioning io2 IOPS is one of the costliest storage mistakes. Base the provisioned IOPS on measured demand, not a comfortable-sounding round number, and revisit it as the workload settles.
